Serving as a Sole Professional Trustee, I assume full fiduciary responsibility for administering a trust in accordance with its terms and applicable Texas law. This role involves managing the trust’s assets, carrying out discretionary and mandatory distributions, communicating with beneficiaries, maintaining financial records, and ensuring proper tax reporting. When named as sole trustee, I act with complete independence, bringing clarity and consistency to the administration process, which is particularly beneficial in families where a neutral, experienced hand can help avoid conflict and maintain focus on the grantor’s intentions.
With a background as fiduciary counsel for two banks and an investment firm, I bring both legal acumen and financial insight to the position. I work closely with the trust’s financial advisors, CPAs, and estate planners to ensure seamless collaboration and coordination. Every trust I administer receives personal attention and careful stewardship, and my fee structure is custom-built to reflect the complexity of the trust’s terms, the types of assets involved, and the anticipated level of administrative involvement.
By choosing an experienced individual professional trustee, grantors can ensure their legacy is handled with competence, responsiveness, and a level of service that corporate fiduciaries often struggle to match. For beneficiaries, my role as sole trustee provides a single, accessible point of contact and a reliable administrator committed to open communication and fair dealing.
Co-Trustee Services
In some cases, grantors prefer to appoint a Co-Trustee, often combining a family member or trusted friend with a professional fiduciary to balance personal insight with professional oversight. In a co-trusteeship, I serve alongside one or more individuals to share in the administrative and discretionary responsibilities of the trust. This structure can be ideal when families want to stay involved but also want the guidance of a seasoned legal professional to help navigate complex decisions, ensure compliance, and avoid unintentional missteps.
As co-trustee, I collaborate closely with my co-fiduciaries to ensure that we carry out our shared duties effectively and in the best interest of the beneficiaries. I assist with asset management, beneficiary communications, record-keeping, and tax reporting, while also providing legal and fiduciary guidance on discretionary distribution decisions. My involvement helps co-trustees understand and fulfill their fiduciary obligations, minimizing risk while maximizing benefits for beneficiaries.
A co-trusteeship can offer the best of both worlds: the familiarity of a family voice and the expertise of a professional advisor. I tailor my role to each trust’s structure, whether it requires equal decision-making authority or a more advisory-based approach. And as with my sole trustee services, all trustee fees are individually structured to reflect the scope of work, the nature of the assets, and the level of fiduciary responsibility involved.
